Finally — a doctor who actually listens
If you've been told your labs are "normal" but you still feel exhausted, bloated, or stuck — you're in the right place. Dr. Lisa Gengo, ND, PA-C, FMCP-M looks beyond the diagnosis to find what's actually driving your symptoms. She sees patients in Stamford, Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan, Fairfield, and Ridgefield, CT — and throughout the Tri-State Area via telehealth.
Conditions We Specialize In
Most patients don't come in saying "I have a heart problem." They come in exhausted, gaining weight, or unable to think clearly. Dr. Gengo connects the dots.
Always Exhausted
Fatigue is often the first sign of adrenal burnout, thyroid dysfunction, or early cardiovascular strain — not just "stress."
Learn More →Brain Fog
Cognitive slowdown may signal systemic inflammation, blood sugar dysregulation, or reduced cardiovascular circulation.
Learn More →Weight That Won't Budge
Stubborn weight is often tied to insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, or hormonal shifts — all cardiovascular risk factors.
Learn More →Heart Health & High Blood Pressure
Advanced lipid testing and functional cardiovascular assessment to identify risk before a diagnosis.
Learn More →High Cholesterol & Triglycerides
Cholesterol is one piece of the puzzle. Dr. Gengo looks at particle size, inflammation, and metabolic health holistically.
Learn More →Blood Sugar & Diabetes
Insulin resistance can simmer for years. Functional testing catches it early — before it becomes a full diabetes diagnosis.
Learn More →Gut & Digestive Health
The gut is the cornerstone of immune function, mental clarity, and cardiovascular wellness. IBS, bloating, SIBO — addressed at the root.
Learn More →Thyroid Disorders
Most conventional thyroid panels only test TSH. Dr. Gengo runs a comprehensive panel including T3, T4, and thyroid antibodies.
Learn More →Autoimmune Conditions
Hashimoto's, lupus, and other autoimmune conditions often respond to root-cause approaches that reduce inflammatory load.
Learn More →Menopause & Perimenopause
Dr. Gengo does not prescribe HRT. Instead, she runs nutrient and hormone labs to identify what the body may be depleted in, then supports with targeted nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle strategies.
Learn More →Anxiety & Mood Imbalances
Anxiety and depression often have root causes in gut health, nutrient deficiencies, and systemic inflammation.
Learn More →Sleep Disorders
Poor sleep accelerates cardiovascular aging. Dr. Gengo investigates cortisol rhythms, nutrient deficits, and underlying causes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What conditions does functional medicine treat?
Functional medicine is designed to address chronic health concerns by identifying underlying imbalances rather than focusing on a single symptom. Dr. Gengo commonly works with patients experiencing thyroid disorders, hormone imbalances, cardiovascular risk, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, chronic fatigue, inflammation, and unexplained symptoms that haven't improved with conventional treatment alone.
I've been told my lab work is "normal," but I still don't feel well. Can functional medicine help?
Yes. Many people experience fatigue, brain fog, weight gain, digestive issues, or hormonal symptoms even when routine blood work appears normal. Dr. Gengo takes a deeper look at your health history, lifestyle, and advanced laboratory testing to identify potential root causes that may not be apparent during a traditional evaluation. Her goal is to understand why you're experiencing symptoms, not simply manage them.
How is Dr. Gengo's approach different from traditional medicine?
Traditional medicine often focuses on diagnosing and treating a disease after it develops. Functional medicine looks at the whole person and asks what is driving the problem in the first place. Dr. Gengo evaluates how nutrition, gut health, hormones, inflammation, stress, sleep, genetics, and metabolism work together to influence your health. Her goal is to create a personalized plan that helps you feel better today while reducing your risk of future disease.
Can I still see Dr. Gengo if I already have a cardiologist?
Absolutely. Dr. Gengo works alongside your cardiologist, not instead of one. If you have heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, a history of heart attack, or other cardiovascular concerns, she focuses on identifying and addressing the underlying factors that influence heart health, such as inflammation, insulin resistance, nutrition, stress, sleep, and metabolic function. Her goal is to complement your existing medical care while helping optimize your overall health.
Will I have to stop taking my medications?
No. Dr. Gengo does not ask patients to discontinue prescription medications on their own. Treatment plans are personalized and may include nutrition, lifestyle changes, targeted supplements, and when appropriate, prescription medications. If medication adjustments become appropriate, they are made carefully and in coordination with your prescribing physician when needed.
